Nice
You can't argue with a place called Nice, can you! And why do it? It's got a fabulous position on the Med. The climate is wonderful all year round. The food is great. The tickets are cheap. In short, it's a great place for weekend breaks.
THE OLD TOWN
Tuck in between the Promenade des Anglais and the modern city center, the old town is a maze of old houses, alleys and narrow yards. And it's not all about tourist shopping. Bars and restaurants mix with the local butcher and art galleries. Don't miss the marketplace at Cours Saleya. The flower market, the flea market and the fruit and veggies market are there at different days.
THE PROMENADE DES ANGLAIS The English first started strolling along the sea in Nice, hence the name. These days there is no shortage of English people in Nice, but during weekends the Promenade is full with locals, walking, skating, roller blading or just stopping for a coffee and enjoying the view. And the view is magnificent, both of the sea, the people, and the city.
EAT Don't fool yourself. Your stomach loves you everytime you go to France. And Nice is no exception. Being a major city, it has all kinds of cuisine. Local specialities are naturally the sea food. Many restaurants have set menus that are very reasonably priced. And if you enjoy people and food, don't miss classic Brasserie Flo, behind Galeries Lafayette. Their menu alone is worth a weekend break.
